Dundalk player ratings from 4-3 defeat to Rapid Vienna in Europa League

Dundalk fell to defeat despite notching three goals away from home as Rapid Vienna edged out the Lilywhites in a thrilling game.

Here's a look at how the players rated in Dundalk's 4-3 loss.

Aaron McCarey 4 - Nightmare on his European debut. Poor for Rapid’s first goal from distance and then missed a punched clearance for their third late on.

Sean Hoare 5 - Started the move for Hoban’s opener and went close with a glancing header of his own. Booked and fortunate not to concede a penalty.

Daniel Cleary 5 - Living dangerously when booked for a foul on Arase and had plenty to contend with as Rapid’s quick-fire surges in the final third overwhelmed Dundalk.

Andy Boyle 5 - Steady if unspectacular on a busy night, but the contest soon got away from Dundalk’s rearguard after the break. Went close to scoring at the back post.

Darragh Leahy 5 - Had a tough time trying to keep Schick and Ljubicic in check as they targeted his flank and Rapid scored their first from his weak clearance. Subbed.

Chris Shields 8 - Superb swashbuckling display, calling the shots from the middle of the park but done so in a composed manner. Fine, lofted assist for Hoban’s goal.

Sean Gannon 6 - Played wide on the right wing but key defensive role too with a number of important challenges. Offside in the build-up to Hoban’s early goal.

Jordan Flores 6 - Forward thinking and teed up Duffy who should have scored before the break. His deadballs caused panic with Boyle going close from one of them.

Greg Sloggett 5 - Added energy to Dundalk’s midfield. Committed a needless foul in a dangerous position before the break and his late miss was a sliding door moment.

Michael Duffy 6 - Back on the left after central role at Arsenal and looked sharp early on but indecision cost him in front of goal. Took a bang and later subbed.

Pat Hoban 7 - Dream start with a headed goal after seven minutes and was much more involved than he was at the Emirates last week. Subbed late on.
