Dundalk dip into Brentford's honey pot once more to sign Wales under-21 midfielder Joe Adams

Dundalk have signed a second Wales under-21 international from Brentford in as many weeks as Stephen O’Donnell secured the signing of midfielder Joe Adams.

The new Lilywhites boss has already signed goalkeeper Nathan Shepperd from the Bees’ B team and has once again dipped into the hive for a player he hopes will be a worker.

20-year-old attack-minded midfielder Adams joined Brentford from Bury in the summer 2019 after breaking into the now-defunct Lancashire side’s first team.

Bar a loan spell with Grimsby Town at the start of of 2021, senior football has been hard to come by and he sees the move to Dundalk as an opportunity to put that right.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to it,” Adams told the club’s official website.

“I’m at the stage of my career where I need to be playing first-team football, so it’s an opportunity I’m really looking to take.”

Adams scored five goals in 33 games in his first season in West London and has added six in 12 appearances this term in the same team as former Dundalk wideman Val Adeokun.

The Bolton-born playmaker has experience against Irish opposition, having scored in Wales under-21s’ defeat to Jim Crawford’s Ireland last year.

O’Donnell, who previously signed winger David Titov from Brentford B while St Patrick’s Athletic boss, feels the Welshman has the technical attributes to excel at Oriel Park.

“Joe is a player with a great pedigree and he’s very technically gifted,” said the Galway native.

“He can play off both feet and he’s good athletically. We’re really looking forward to seeing him play. He’s a quality addition and he is a player who will really excite our fans.”

Adams’ signing brings the number of players signed up with the Lilywhites to 16 for the season.
