Dundalk could be set for collision course with Champion League heavyweights Ajax after Europa League draw made

Dundalk could face Champions League semi-finalists Ajax in the next round of the Europa League - if they knock out Slovan Bratislava.

The Lilywhites are travelling to Slovakia today ahead of Wednesday's third round, first-leg clash.

And following the draw in Switzerland earlier, they know they will face the loser of the Champions League clash between Ajax and Greek side PAOK if they advance.

In that event, Dundalk would be at home in the first-leg.

Ahead of the Lilywhites' trip to Slovakia this week, goalkeeper Gary Rogers said: “Our target at the start of the year was to get to the Europa League group stages.

“And we’re still on target for that with a big game next week. Wednesday’s game should stand to us as it’s really good preparation playing a team of that quality.

“We would be hopeful of playing a bit better next week. These are huge European nights and I love them.

“They’re great occasions and while it's disappointing that we didn't get the right result, it's a huge positive that we're not out of Europe and we have two huge games.

“Next week will be a tough tie in Slovakia but it’s one that we have every chance of going through.

“We’ll prepare properly over the weekend and do our homework by putting things in place to go through in that tie.

“There's disappointment now but, again, the huge positive is we're not out of Europe. We have an opportunity in the third round of the Europa League.

“That’s a fantastic opportunity for the club and the players. It's still there for us.

“Going out of the Champions League, you could be in bad form on the night as it’s fresh in your mind, but it’s done and dusted now.”
