Dundalk confirm appointment of Filippo Giovagnoli as permanent head coach

FAI Cup winners Dundalk have tonight appointed Filippo Giovagnoli as head coach on a permanent basis.

His assistant Giuseppe Rossi and first-team manager Shane Keegan have also signed contract extensions.

And Jim Magilton’s move from the IFA to Director of Football at Dundalk will be confirmed on Wednesday.

Giovagnoli was a complete unknown when he controversially succeeded Vinny Perth on a three-month deal in August.

But he secured qualification to the Europa League group stages, bagged a return to Europe next season and won the FAI Cup on Sunday.

Giovagnoli is believed to have signed a two-year deal and he said tonight: “I’m delighted to sign this contract that makes my position at Dundalk permanent.

“It’s an honour to defend the colours of this amazing town and I’ll do my best to keep the club successful over the coming years because that is what our fans deserve.

“When we returned to Dundalk with the FAI Cup on Sunday night I was able to see how amazing our fans are.

“I’m hoping to see them soon at Oriel Park where they will be able to fight with us.”

Dundalk bring the curtain down on their roller-coaster season when they host Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday night.
