Dundalk make double swoop for English defender and Scottish striker

Stephen O'Donnell is singing the praises of his new recruits after Dundalk made it four signings in a week.

The Lilywhites yesterday snapped up defender Hayden Muller from Millwall and striker Cameron Eillott from Scottish side East Kilbride.

Both have signed permanent deals and follow Louie Annesley and Connor Malley in the door at Oriel Park this week.

From London, Muller came through Millwall’s academy and made five appearances for the first-team, the most recent of which was against Sheffield United in August.

He also joined St Johnstone on a season-loan loan in the summer of 2021 and made eight appearances - seven of them starts - before being recalled in January.

Dundalk boss O’Donnell said: “He has first-team experience from when he went on loan to St Johnstone a year ago.

“He was doing really well there, was highly thought of and was only called back by Millwall because they had a number of injuries.

“He’s a footballing centre-back who can also play at right back and he has great potential.

“We believe he is a player we can develop and build a platform around and he is hungry to come here and excel.

“Hayden is a good age, has lots of ability, has good pace and is great on the ball.”

Muller, 20, is excited about the permanent transfer to the League of Ireland and said: “I can’t wait to get started.

“I know Alfie Lewis, and Louie Annesley is also from London so it’s always good to have people like that around to help you settle in a lot quicker.”

Striker Elliott, 23, was a St Mirren youth and scored 15 goals in 21 games for East Kilbride this season.

O’Donnell said: “He's had a great goal record over the last few seasons and he’s scored against good calibre opposition like Celtic’s B team.

“We’ve signed a player who not only knows where the goal is but someone who will work tirelessly and work a backline.

“He’s got a lot of raw attributes, he’s a powerful runner and he’s very sharp with his movement and gets his shots away.”

Dundalk continue to be linked with midfielder Cameron Salkeld, who came through Newcastle United’s youth ranks and was most recently at Ayr United..
