Dundalk coach Shane Keegan to manage hurling team

Shane Keegan is the new hurling manager of Laois club Rathdowney Errill - but will continue to work for FAI Cup holders Dundalk.

The Laois native has managed Galway United and Wexford Youths in the League of Ireland.

And he was a central figure in Dundalk’s coaching set-up last season where he was promoted from opposition analyst to coach.

A Pro Licence holder, Keegan was in the dugout and on press conference duty for most of the Lilywhites Europa League games in 2020.

UEFA do not recognise Filippo Giovagnoli as the Lilywhites boss in the Europa League as he does not have the top level coaching qualification.

'Laois Today' first revealed that Keegan will juggle soccer and hurling in 2021 having been ratified as Rathdowney Errill boss for the coming campaign.

It is understood that Keegan could have a broader remit behind the scenes at Dundalk this season.

Keegan is from Rathdowney and the GAA club were 2019 county champions but beaten semi-finalists in 2020.
