Dundalk appoint Jim Magilton as Sporting Director

Dundalk have appointed Jim Magilton as their Sporting Director.

The former Northern Ireland international had been working as elite performance director at the Irish Football Association for the past seven years.

A former Ipswich Town and QPR manager, he was assistant to Michael O’Neill at Shamrock Rovers.

Magilton will take up the newly created role at Oriel Park on Monday and is expected to outline his role at a press conference that day.

As a player, Magilton won 52 caps for Northern Ireland and played for Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Oxford and Liverpool.

His appointment follows on from last night’s news that Filippo Giovagnoli has landed the Lilywhites head coach role on a permanent basis.

It is understood that the Italian signed a two-year deal having initially been appointed on a three-month contract in August.

Assistant Giuseppe Rossi and first-team manager Shane Keegan also signed extensions ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Arsenal.
