Duncrue Street fire now under control but roads in area remain closed

Fire crews have worked through the night in difficult conditions to bring a large blaze in North Belfast under control.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were alerted to the incident at M2 Business Park , Duncrue Street at 11.10pm last night.

A total of 13 fire appliances and more than 60 fire personnel were involved at the scene of the fire which could be seen from miles away.

The blaze has now been brought under control but fire crews are expected to remain at the scene until later this afternoon with a number of road closures also in place.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “NIFRS were alerted to a fire incident at the M2 Business Park, at approximately 23.10hrs on Thursday 14 th November.

"On arrival fire crews were met with a significant and well developed fire in a large storage unit containing large quantities of agricultural feed materials.

"Fire crews have worked hard throughout the night in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and to protect neighbouring property. The fire is now under control and a number of fire crews will remain onsite until daylight Friday morning, when operations will resume fully.

(PSNI North Belfast)

"It is expected that firecrews will be onsite dealing with the incident until Friday afternoon.”

Police have advised motorists to take an alternative route this morning as road closures are in place in the area.

A PSNI North Belfast spokesperson said: "Due to a large fire in Duncrue Street, NIFRS are currently utilising a High Volume Pump that crosses the roundabout at Duncrue Street and Herdman Channel Road.

"This has resulted in a road closure on the Duncrue Street side of this roundabout. Duncrue Road is also closed in both directions. Drivers please consider alternative routes as this is not passable whilst the hose is in use. Thank you for your understanding."
