CHICAGO _ The Blackhawks entered this most recent homestand a slumping team having lost five of six.
But the return home did the Hawks some good. They had won three consecutive games entering Tuesday's contest against the Red Wings.
And the good vibes kept going, as the Hawks downed their rivals 4-3 in overtime at the United Center for their fourth consecutive victory.
Duncan Keith scored the game winner on the power play 38 seconds into the extra period with assist from Artemi Panarin and Patrick Kane.
The Hawks now play three of their next four on the road beginning Friday night against the Capitals.
It appeared early as if the Hawks were primed to run away with this game.
The Hawks took advantage of one of three power plays in the first period when Brian Campbell scored on a shot from the point before a penalty on Jonathan Ericsson expired. It was Campbell's fourth goal of the season.
Public address announcer Gene Honda didn't get done announcing that goal before the Hawks scored again just 26 seconds later. The sequence began with Keith sending a pass from behind goal line along the board to Ryan Hartman, who raced down the ice on a breakaway. Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped Hartman's initial shot, but winger Richard Panik crashed the net and was able to clean up the rebound for his 10th goal of the season. It was Keith's 29th assist of the season.
The Red Wings responded in the second period with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes to tie the game. Andreas Athanasiou roofed a wrist shot past Corey Crawford from the left circle 1:37 into the period.
The Wings tied it at 2 later when Tomas Tatar came out of the penalty box and sniped a shot from the slot past Crawford. The Hawks had poor defensive coverage on the goal and it did not help that Niklas Hjalmarsson broke his stick trying to clear the puck.
The Hawks regained the lead at 18:18 when Tanner Kero picked up his first goal of the season off a Hartman rebound, making it two goals on the night for the third line.
But the lead did not last long before the Red Wings scored with 19 seconds remaining in the period. Several Red Wings poked at a loose puck in front of Crawford before Luke Glendening managed to lift it past Crawford to tie the score again at 3.
