Duncan Jones discusses father David Bowie's death

Duncan Jones says he was fortunate he got to say goodbye to his father David Bowie who died earlier this year.

Bowie passed away in January after an 18-month private illness with cancer at the age of 69. Shortly after his death was announced, his son Jones, shared a picture of himself as a toddler on his Dad’s shoulders.

Jones then took some time off social media, briefly returning to share a poignant article from a palliative care doctor who praised the late singer for inspiring others coming to the end of their life.

Asked about his father’s death on The Nerdist podcast, Jones said he was fortunate him and Bowie, who he credited as being a “very good guy”, got to say their goodbyes.

“I’m ok, I’m good, I was very fortunate we got a chance to say our goodbyes so I’m good,” he said.

The filmmaker discussed the process of grieving his father, saying: “Weird things make me miss him - I’m sure I always will - but it’s still early days, it’s tricky.

“He was a big gravitational pull on my life as far as who I saw myself as, how I separated myself from the world and how I saw myself.”

Just one month after his father’s death, Jones announced he is expecting his first child with wife Rodent Ronquillo. Jones said he told his Dad about the baby, who is due next month, at Christmas.
