Duncan Ferguson targets a rousing send off as Everton manager from Goodison crowd

Duncan Ferguson is hoping for a rousing send off as caretaker boss against Arsenal with tomorrow's home game expected to be his last in charge of Everton.

The Blues are understood to be finalising the details of Carlo Ancelotti's appointment but after the emotional roller-coaster of the past fortnight, Goodison Park icon Ferguson wants to go out with a bang in his fourth match on the touchline.

Asked if there will be emotion, he said: “I think there will be, depending on how we're getting on.

“Hopefully we can get a good result, a positive result, it will be an emotional time.

“It has been for the last 10 days really or two weeks. It's been a great journey for myself and the players.

“If it is to end tomorrow then hopefully it ends on a high.”

Ferguson – who has made a habit of celebrating wildly with the ball boys – acknowledged they might miss him.

He said: “There were none round the back of the goal against Leicester, they were all next to me.

“I'm sure they'll be pleased with that. Their ribs will not feel the strain.”

Ferguson was in no doubt as to the best part of his spell in charge though.

He said: “The fans reaction really, the atmosphere in the ground. I think we've got a bit of the club back, we've brought it back to the fans really.

“We've all been a part of it together, that's been a big thing for me. We all seemed to have pulled together as a club.

“We're a close-knit family in the community, in Liverpool. The new manager coming in needs to knit it together.

“The players have responded. They realised the fans have got behind the players. The players have reacted as well. The players and fans have interacted fantastically.”
