Duncan Ferguson stance on Everton exit claims and Blackburn Rovers reports

Claims that Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson is in “advanced talks” to replace Tony Mowbray at Blackburn Rovers appear wide of the mark. Various outlets have reported that Ferguson, who has served as number two to Carlo Ancelotti, Rafael Benitez and now Frank Lampard at Everton, had been interviewed by Ewood Park officials and is the frontrunner to take over at the Championship club.

However, the ECHO understands that Ferguson himself has told Blues colleagues that he is completely unaware of any interest and has had no talks whatsoever. The Scot, now 50, had two playing spells at Everton between 1994-98 and 2000-06 before returning to Goodison Park to join the coaching staff in 2014.

Ferguson has twice served as caretaker manager but ahead of what proved to be his only game in charge of the second stint in January this year (a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa), he said : “I’ll always dream about becoming Everton manager, but of course I’ve not quite got that experience.” Meanwhile, another former Everton player, coach and caretaker manager David Unsworth has also been linked with the Blackburn Rovers vacancy.

The 48-year-old left his positions at Everton as Academy Director and Under-23s manager back in April to pursue his ambition of becoming a first team manager. A potential switch to the Lancashire outfit could well appeal to Chorley-born Unsworth as he considers his next move.
