Duncan Ferguson left Shay Given 'devastated' after what he spotted at Newcastle house party

Shay Given has revealed he was left 'devastated' after former Newcastle United team-mate Duncan Ferguson drank a bottle of Dom Perignon he had been given for his 21st birthday.

Given and Ferguson were team-mates for just a year-and-a-half at Newcastle, but the pair were part of a particularly close group of British and Irish players at the club at the time.

The players would often go back to each other's houses after a night out and, on one such occasion, they went back to Given's place.

Let's just say that it did not take Ferguson long to spot the bottle of expensive champagne that Given had been saving.

"I think someone had bought me a bottle of Dom Perignon for my 21st or something," Given told the Open Goal podcast.

"The lads all came back. We were having a bit of a party in the house and we're all just drinking beers and stuff.

"Duncan goes, 'I cannot drink this s---!' He's clocked this bottle of Dom Perignon. I had it stashed in the box and everything.

"I remember big Dunc, the size of him, just going up. He didn't need a step ladder. He just reached up and pulled it down.

"I said, 'Duncan! No man!' He said, 'This is what I drink!' F------ big Dunc DPing it up! I was devastated!"
