Duncan Ferguson gives update on his future as Everton manager

Duncan Ferguson admitted he expects to be in charge of Everton for this week's League Cup clash with Leicester City.

The temporary manager, who took over following the sacking of Marco Silva earlier this month, has now taken four points from his two games in charge after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Blues are back in action on Wednesday night, taking on Leicester at Goodison Park in the quarter final of the Carabao Cup.

And, while Ferguson didn't know for sure, he expects to be in charge for that match.

He told his post-match press conference: "I really don't know. I think I will be, yeah.

"It's obviously a quick turnaround for a new guy to come in before Wednesday, so I think I'd be taking the game but I'll speak to the directors and the owner probably tonight, so they can confirm it."

Two strong results against tough opponents have started rumours that Ferguson could potentially earn the job on a full time basis.

However, the temporary boss has reiterated that the club should be looking elsewhere.

He added: "I think it's going to buy them [the board] a bit of time to get the right man in. We've got a couple of results so they can make that process more diligent and they find the right guy.

"We need the best manager in the world for Everton Football Club. I've not got the experience of managing before.

"I'm all for us bringing in a top, top manager. If I can be part of that, then brilliant."

With the January transfer window around the corner, Ferguson also confirmed that he hasn't been looking at potential targets along with the board.

"It's something the club need to start thinking about and I'm sure they are," he added.

"They've got plenty of people behind-the-scenes who'll be looking at transfer targets but that's nothing I've looked at to be honest with you."
