Duncan Ferguson confesses low hopes of taking Everton manager job full-time

Duncan Ferguson has dismissed his chances of landing the Everton job full-time, despite his fine start.

Ferguson guided Everton to a draw at Old Trafford to follow up his win over Chelsea in his first game and the fans love having their hero in charge.

But he says his role is just to give the club breathing space until they make the appointment they want.

“I think it’s going to buy them a bit of time to get the right man in,” said Everton’s hard man caretaker boss, who took his jacket off when it got wet despite the cold.

“They can make the process more diligent and find the right guy.

“We need the best manager in the world to manage Everton Football Club. I’ve not got the experience in management.

“I’m all for us bringing in a top, top manager and if I can be part of that, brilliant.

“I don’t know how close the club are from getting a manager. I’ll just go from game to game.

“I think I’ll be in charge on Wednesday and I’m just waiting for that to be confirmed.”

Ferguson says he will speak to Moise Kean after the striker reacted angrily when he took him off just 18 minutes after bringing him on.

“I think it’s understandable if you’re a a sub and getting subbed off,” said the Scot.

“That’s what I was just looking for, fresh legs really. Unfortunately he was the one I decided to bring off. I can see why he’s upset.

“It was no slight on him, I just wanted to kill a bit of time. I’ve been there as a player myself, I’ve been subbed on and subbed off myself. He’ll be fine. He’ll come again, he’s only 19.

“But it’s for the good of the team. I’ll speak to him next time I see him.”
