Duncan and Todd takes over Dundee optician

Optician Duncan and Todd has acquired independent Dundee group Neil Cuthbert & Partners.

The move has enabled investment in a newly refurbished store on Commercial Street, which will now offer hearing tests and an increased choice of frames and products.

Twelve staff have transferred from Neil Cuthbert & Partners, whose branch at Ninewells Hospital has been closed and staff moved to Commercial Street.

The other Neil Cuthbert & Partners’ store on Strathmartine Road is being rebranded as Duncan and Todd .

Neil Cuthbert & Partners was established in 1980, providing eye examinations and other services including sports vision, vocational eyewear and low visual aids.

Duncan and Todd has operated in Dundee since 1989. It has a branch in the city's Broughty Ferry area.

Duncan and Todd recently became the largest independent optical provider in Scotland when it acquired nine branches from Black & Lizars

Frances Rus, managing director of Duncan and Todd, said: “We are delighted to welcome the team from Neil Cuthbert & Partners to the Duncan and Todd Group.

“As long-established independent opticians they are an ideal fit for us and we have been able to pool resources to concentrate on two key locations for us in Dundee.

“The existing Strathmartine Road branch will remain open and will be rebranded and we have chosen to stay in the city centre so the newly revamped store will remain accessible for our customers.”

She added: “We have invested considerably in the new store, which will allow us to provide new services, particularly hearing tests, as well as the usual quality and personalised eye care we are both known and respected for. We will also be able to stock new ranges of glasses, offering customers a wider choice.”

Neil Cuthbert said: “We are delighted that Duncan and Todd will continue the dedicated personal service to all the loyal patients of the practices and provide optometric eyecare to the highest professional standards for which Barbara, the team and I always strived."

The new-look store officially reopened over the weekend.
