Dunblane to get first new council homes in almost five decades

New council houses are set to be made available in Dunblane for the first time in almost five decades.

At a meeting of Stirling Council’s environment and housing committee last Thursday councillors agreed the purchase of 26 properties in the Barbush development from developer Miller Homes.

The 26 properties will be social housing and delivered as part of the council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), which aims to provide new, high quality, sustainable, affordable homes across the Stirling area.

The new homes - which will be the first new build council homes in Dunblane for more than 45 years - will include 12 one-bed cottage flats, eight two-bed cottage flats and six two-bed terraced houses.

Local councillor Graham Houston said: “This may be the proudest moment so far in nearly a decade and a half I have served as a councillor.

“I am fortunate to be able to call Dunblane my home but I know there are many others for whom affordable housing is simply not available and despite being born and brought up here have to move away.

“This investment of millions of pounds jointly funded by Stirling Council and the Scottish Government will provide 26 new homes that are being built to a high environmental standard and will make a huge difference for people who wish to make Dunblane their home.”

The council’s housing portfolio holder Councillor Evelyn Tweed said: “Stirling Council is committed to providing new houses for those who need them, helping transform and regenerate our towns and villages for all the people who live there, and these homes will help achieve this.”
