Dunblane High has retained its spot among the top ten of Scotland’s high schools, according to an annual league table rankings.
The Times High School League Table ranks all of Scotland’s 340 state institutions and ranks them according to the percentage of pupils receiving the perceived ‘gold standard’ of five Highers in 2021.
In the table, Dunblane High comes in seventh - a slight drop from fourth in last year’s table - with exactly three quarters of pupils securing the five Higher standard, compared to 79 per cent in the previous table.
It is the only Stirling school to feature in the top ten - with Jordanhill School in Glasgow retaining it’s position as number one in the rankings.
The table also reveals the importance of wealth in determining school performance, with the vast majority of pupils in the top ten schools living in Scotland’s most affluent areas.
Mark McLaughlin, education correspondent at The Times Scotland, said: “The Scottish government claims it ‘does not do league tables’ but this is disingenuous.
“It discloses an annual school-by-school breakdown of the proportion of pupils who earn qualifications at each level of the curriculum – a league table in all but name.#
“By publishing this information in an accessible and fully searchable guide, we seek to empower parents with information around the performance of their local schools.
“Five Highers is a good measure of success, but not the only measure. For that reason, The Times has also published the socioeconomic profile of the top and bottom schools, which shows some punch above their weight.”
