Dunblane brothers took on cycling and walking effort to raise cash for charity set up by uncle

Two Dunblane brothers took part in a charity fundraising challenge last month.

Newton Primary School pupils Murray and Ross Baldwin cycled and walked to raise money for a charity set up by their uncle David.

David, from Strathpeffer, who has suffered from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks since 2013, established the CSF Leak Association.

Ten-year-old Murray and Ross (7) live in Dunblane with dad Richard and mum Emma.

They finished their challenge last Sunday covering a total of 180 miles and raising more than £1200.

Locations included the Kelpies, Loch Leven, Wales and Manchester.

The boys said this week: “We really wanted to do something to support a charity that can help people with our uncle’s condition.

“We had to either run or cycle every day to meet our target and it was actually really fun.”

Dad Richard added: “They undertook the Challenge every day in July. They initially set a target of 150 miles.

“Murray was 50 miles running and 50 miles cycling and Ross 25 miles running and 25 miles cycling, but Ross increased his mid way through to 40 miles running and 40 miles cycling as he was keen to push himself further spurred on by support and donations. This meant the final challenge was 180 mile between them.”

Richard said that Murray and Ross had been keen to help their uncle and the charity he established.

He commented: “One of Murray and Ross’ favourite things to do is to visit their Uncle David, Auntie Cerian and cousin Calum in Strathpeffer.

”However, life has not been easy for them as ever since 2013 David has suffered from a CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) leak.

“This has changed their lives completely and despite surgery, and other efforts to help improve his condition, his leak remains.

“It is hard to put into words just how debilitating this is for those directly and indirectly effected, but both David and Cerian have have kept positive, sought ways to adapt and spent a huge amount of time setting up this charity to help fellow sufferers, their families and to raise awareness within the wider medical community.
