Dunbar United's club secretary dies during East of Scotland league match

Dunbar United's club secretary died as he watched the team play in a match at the weekend, the East Lothian club has announced.

Many people have paid tribute to Malcolm Jones following the tragic incident during a match against Crossgates Primrose on Saturday afternoon.

It's understood he fell ill suddenly, with paramedics called to Crossgates' ground in Humbug Park, Fife.

Dunbar United are a junior football team who play in the East of Scotland Football League, they are based at New Countess Park.

They posted a statement on Facebook saying: "The club is devastated to announce the sudden death of club secretary Malcolm Jones during yesterday’s match against Crossgate Primrose.

"We have lost a great man and friend who touched us all. Our deepest condolences go to wife Fiona, sons Geoff, Russell & Graeme & his 5 grandchildren."

Crossgates Primerose said: "From everyone at @Primrose1926 we wish to express our deepest condolences to Malcolm’s family, friends and everyone involved with @dunbar_united. We are still all very numb and devastated at the loss of a lovely, friendly man a true gentleman. Our thoughts are with you all."

Bo'ness United wrote: "Condolences to Malcolm's family and friends from everyone at Bo'ness United."

Tranent Juniors said: "Absolutely devastating news, had a great chat with him last week and about the clubs plans applying for their license, he was in great spirits.

"Condolences to all of Malcom’s family and everyone associated with the club. We are here if you needs anything guys."
