Dun Laoghaire RNLI rescues two people after 18ft yacht runs aground in Dublin

Dun Laoghaire RNLI rescued two people after an 18ft yacht ran aground on Saturday.

Lifeboat volunteers sprang into action following reports from the Irish Coast Guard that a motor boat was stuck in the sand after its engine failed.

The yacht, which had a man and a woman on it, had run aground near Sandymount, Dublin Live reports.

The volunteer crew launched their inshore lifeboat at 4.11pm and the two people were brought safely back to the marina at Dun Laoghaire.

Luckily the weather conditions on the day were good with calm, light winds from the south east.

Dun Laoghaire RNLI Helms, Gary Hayes said: “As this is the summer season, people should have their boats serviced and always carry a form of communication.

“Don’t hesitate in calling the coastguard for assistance.”
