Dun Laoghaire RNLI rescue man found clinging to his capsized boat off Dalkey

Dun Laoghaire RNLI have this afternoon rescued a man from the sea after he was found clinging to his capsized boat off Dalkey.

The man, whose condition is not known at this time, was pulled from the water at approximately 3.50pm today.

Helicopters and ambulances also attended the incident, and the man was taken ashore at Coliemore Harbour in Dalkey where he received further treatment.

A local fisherman also aided the casualty by keeping him afloat with a boat hook.

He was then taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

A spokesman for RNLI has thanked both locals and the fisherman for their help, saying: "This was a tremendous effort from all involved. We would like to extend our praise to the members of the public who alerted the emergency services as quickly as they did.

"We also want to thank the local fisherman for his help in this rescue and for his efforts to saving a life."

Gardai have been contacted for a statement.
