Dun Laoghaire RNLI called as 35ft yacht gets stuck off coast of Dublin

Members of the Dun Laoghaire RNLI were called to help three people who got stuck on a yacht off the coast of Dublin earlier today.

The Dublin Coast Guard requested the help of the RNLI after the 35ft yacht got into difficulty about two kilometres from the shoreline.

Six members of the RNLI were deployed to tow the yacht back to safety at Dun Laoghaire after it had its propeller fouled which stopped it heading back unassisted.

Thankfully everyone on board wore their life jackets and were prepared to call the coastguard for help when they came into difficulty.

Mark McGibney, Dun Laoghaire RNLI lifeboat Coxswain said: "This can happen to anyone but it’s great to see the people involved wearing life jackets and have the correct means of communication to call the Irish Coast Guard for help, which was the case today.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to make sure that their vessel engines and safety equipment are checked and in working order before taking to the water."
