Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Mayor Una Power called a 'f*****g b***h' while cycling during clash with road rager

The Mayor of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown has slammed a road rager who called her a "f*****g b***h" while she was out cycling.

Green Party councillor Una Power took to Twitter this afternoon to call out the driver after he furiously beeped and shouted at her while out cycling in Glenageary.

She wrote: "Haven't really been on social media much recently due to being a bit unwell (not covid), but going to have a big rant right now because I am tired, angry and upset.

"So, I was cycling down Glenageary Road Lower, past the crossroads with Corrig Road, and was taking the primary position because I've had too many close encounters with poor overtaking on what is a narrow road.

"Up ahead traffic was at a standstill. AND YET...

"A guy with a trailer overtakes me tightly, beeps furiously, only to be stop twenty metres ahead of me - clearly in a futile rush.

"As I pass him he starts shouting at me. Tells me: 'You're a stupid f*****g b***h, use the pavement - it is free'. And more expletives."

Despite her explanations, the man continued to insist she was in the wrong.

Ms Power said she was still "angry and frustrated" and couldn't understand why the driver needed to rush ahead of her "furiously just to get to a bloody standstill".

She said: "I told him to learn the rules of the road and that I am not supposed to be on the pavement - pedestrians have barely any room there as is and there is a doctor's office with vulnerable people coming and going at the bottom. But he was convinced that he was in the right.

"I didn't have my phone to take the reg but have his company's name and told him I would be writing to them. The anger and aggression was so ludicrous. He was driving furiously just to get to a bloody standstill!

"This is why I take primary position on roads like this. I need space to be able to react when passed dangerously by aggressive drivers. I am just so angry and frustrated right now."
