Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown libraries warn people not to microwave their books to try and kill Covid-19

Just when you thought you'd seen it all in 2020, it turns out Dubliners have been trying to kill Covid-19 by microwaving library books.

And Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Libraries have been compelled to remind people after they received burned books back.

The library ID tag, unsurprisingly, can and will combust if placed and heated inside a microwave, setting the borrowed books on fire.

You can't fully blame the microwavers, who no doubt are just looking out for themselves and their families.

But when books are quarantined upon their return, it is a little bit of overkill - and that's without the obvious risk of damage.

"No, you shouldn't microwave library books to try and kill COVID-19!," the tweet read.

"All returned material is quarantined for 72 hours.

"Items are fitted with a metallic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag which can and will burn if microwaved."
