Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard carries out 100th call of 2020 as person gets cut off by tide at Sandymount Beach

The Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard carried out its 100th call of the year and thankfully it had a good outcome.

It played out as a member of the public got cut off by the tide at Sandymount Beach.

Two jeeps, Rescue 116 and the RNLI Dun Laoghaire lifeboat were called out to attend to the person in danger, and they were found in waist deep water.

They were quickly rescued thanks to the brave members of the coast guard and RNLI, and thankfully did not need any medical attention.

Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard said: "It has been a busy and an extraordinary year so far for all, with Covid 19 pandemic changing our lives in many ways.

"Irish Coast Dun Laoghaire had its 100th tasking for 2020 (2 only relating to Covid 19 requests) on Sandymount beach with a member of the public cut off by the tide.

"Two 4x4 jeeps were deployed to the scene along with Rescue 116 Dublin SAR and RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB. The person was quickly identified in waist deep water.

"RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB arrived on scene and recovered the person, returning them back to Dun Laoghaire Harbour, were no medical attention was required.

"Thank you all for their assistance today on another successful outcome. Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard."
