Dumpster diver's impressive haul of tossed out food 'with enough meat to feed community'

A woman who hasn't paid for a food shop in nearly two years by dumpster diving shows off her impressive haul of thrown away items.

The TikToker, who goes by "Dumpster Diving Freegan", has shared footage of her finding hundreds of pounds worth of meat and produce that was reportedly tossed in the bin.

In one video, she shows how she came across a 16-pound frozen turkey that cost £49 ($65).

The US-based woman said: "Last night I found enough meat to feed an entire community. I found everything from organic chicken and beef to Beyond meat."

The woman also explained that finding perishable food in 33F or OC at night meant it was "still super cold".

She also explained that makes sure none of the items she finds were recalled.

She continued: "Everything had been thrown out on or before its best-buy date, and as we know, best-buy dates are not hard rules and everything was still good to consume."

In addition to finding meat during this haul, she also found produce, yoghurt and homemade guacamole.

The video has been viewed more than 2.7million times.

In other videos that she has shared, she finds sealed bottles of wine.

Many commented on her videos highlighting the amount of food waste as people go hungry.

One wrote: "And yet child hunger is alive and well in the freaking USA."

Another added: "Thank you for saving all of this! I cannot even begin to imagine how much waste we DON'T see that goes in compactors. Honestly shocking."

Some did raise concerns about the safety and quality of the food, but the dumpster diving woman claims she knows what she is doing and has survived on scavenged food for nearly two years.

Dumpster Diving Freegan, who has more than 340,000 TikTok followers, started dumpster diving when the Covid-19 pandemic stopped her from travelling for work.

She said that while she was on the road, her meals were comped and got extra income and when the pandemic hit she was losing $400 to $800 (£300 to £600) a month in additional income.

The woman also found a whole frozen turkey (dumpsterdivingfreegan/Tiktok)

This meant she was no longer on track to save her goal of $32,000 (£24,120) for a down payment on a house.

She explained in a previous video: "I tried to find ways to reduce my expenses, and my biggest expense next to my rent at the time was food.

"So I started looking up extreme ways to reduce my grocery bill.

"I was recommended a dumpster-diving video on YouTube, and I thought to myself, 'There's no way this can be real.'

The haul also included yoghurts (dumpsterdivingfreegan/Tiktok)

"And to my surprise, it is real. I haven't paid for groceries in nearly two years, and I was able to achieve that down payment goal. Now I focus on bringing awareness."

Dumpster Diving Freegan says all of her finds are within five miles of her house as she shares hauls from many different stores.

In another video, she explains she donates 10 times more than what she keeps for herself and that she always leaves enough behind for others who are dumpster diving for food.
