Dumpling and Bun in Grainger Market granted alcohol licence despite police objections

Dumpling and Bun in Newcastle's Grainger Market has been granted an alcohol licence, despite the application being met with objections.

The Licensing Authority, Environmental Health and police were among the objections received in response to the eatery's application for the licence which was submitted in December 2021.

But those objections were subsequently withdrawn after the Licensing Authority proposed conditions which were agreed by the applicant. And now Dumpling and Bun is expanding its menu of handmade Chinese dumplings and stuffed buns with the addition of Asian alcohol.

The new drink options will accompany a wide range of dumpling and steamed bun flavours, including chicken and mushroom, beef and carrot, and tofu and seasonal vegetables. And there's also a creamy custard filled bun for customers with a sweet tooth.

Sarah Smith, head of licensing at Sintons lawyers, which supported the application, said: "Securing a licence is not always a straightforward process, even when it may appear to be, and unfortunately Dumpling and Bun met with some initial resistance when they submitted their application.

"Through turning to us, we were able to support them in making a case as to why their licence would be a positive for the business, the Grainger Market and wider local area, adding further to the diversity and vibrancy it already enjoys and is known for.

"As a highly experienced licensing advisor, we can support on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious applications, with our unrivalled expertise ensuring we continue to be the go-to advisor for small businesses and multi-site leisure groups alike."
