Dumfriesshire school to remain closed for a week after positive coronavirus test

A Dumfriesshire school will be closed until next week after a positive Covid-19 test.

The council confirmed a case of coronavirus at Collin Primary on Friday morning with the school closing the same day.

A precautionary step was taken to send all pupils from P1 to P7 home to self-isolate until November 17. Cleaning and catering staff were also affected.

Council leader Elaine Murray said: “As Collin Primary is a small school, Public Health’s Trace and Protect Team have decided that all pupils should be treated as close contacts of the individual case which has been identified as positive.

“All pupils are required to self-isolate until November 17. However, other family members can leave the house unless their child develops symptoms.

“Although parents will be understandably concerned, this is very much a precautionary measure.

“I understand that remote learning will be available from next week.”

Several schools in Dumfries and Galloway have recorded positive coronavirus tests.

Castle Douglas and Lockerbie schools have had pupils self-isolating after positive cases last month.

A pupil at Wallace Hall Primary in Thornhill has also tested positive for Covid-19.

A council spokesman said: “Following confirmation of a Wallace Hall Primary School pupil being Covid-19 positive, an incident management team met late last week, involving Public Health and the council.

“Trace and protect processes have been initiated, close contacts have been identified, and these individuals have been asked to self-isolate.

“The incident management team will continue to monitor the situation and take action as appropriate.”

In September Georgetown Primary and Nursery had a Covid-19 scare but it turned out to be a false alarm.

A pupil had initially tested positive but following re-testing they returned a negative result.
