Dumfries work mates to tackle Mongol Rally for Children's Hospices Across Scotland

Two work mates are aiming to raise thousands by driving half way around the world in an old car.

Callum Shaw and Sam Stitt are taking part in the Mongol Rally – described as “the greatest motoring adventure on the planet” - this summer.

The pair will set off from their work at Scot JCB in Dumfries on July 19 in a bid to drive 10,000 miles across mountains and deserts in their 1,000cc car, aiming to arrive in Asia around four weeks later.

Callum, from Castle Douglas, and Sam, from Thornhill, are raising money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) as they work alongside a bereaved dad who received support at Robin House in Balloch.

Concerns raised over eviction of shepherd from Galloway hills home

Callum, who is 28, said: “We want to show our appreciation to CHAS and help spread the word of their work.”

The pair are hoping to raise £2,500 and have had support from a number of local businesses, including Maxwell Construction, Civils and Molplant Construction.

Senior community fundraiser for CHAS, Samantha Reilly, said: “This is certainly no ordinary fundraiser.

“CHAS are so thrilled to have been chosen as one of the benefiting charities.

Castle Douglas residents take the chance to have blood pressure checked

“I spent some time with Callum and Sam and look forward to hearing all about their incredible journey.”

CHAS works across Scotland providing hospice services nationwide for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

CHAS offers palliative, respite and end-of-life care from Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch, as well as providing families with the services of a hospice in their own homes.
