Dumfries woman decorates house with knitted poppies ahead of Remembrance Day

A Dumfries woman has decorated the front of her house with knitted poppies in the run-up to Remembrance Day.

Betty Kerr, of Georgetown, created more than 70 of the poppies during lockdown to give her something to pass the time.

And now she has displayed them outside her home and they have gone down well with passers-by.

The 72-year-old, pictured, said: “I knitted it myself in lockdown.

“I thought I might as well do it and put it up.

“It seems to have gone down well as a lot of people look at it as they go past.

“A few years ago we were asked at St George’s Church to help with a poppy display for the Loreburne Centre and I knitted 50 for that.

“When lockdown came in I thought I might as well knit some more.

“It gave me something to do in lockdown at least. I’ve knitted more than 70 of them.”
