Council workers have thrown up barricades in English Street again warning of more demolition work.
A small chunk of the road has been blocked to traffic, but pedestrians are free to walk the pavements.
Takeaway store Taddei’s shut up shop with council vehicles parked on one side of the business and wire fencing erected on the other with a written sign stating: “Re-opening on April 28.”
The 67 hairdressers’ owner, Glenda Telalaszko, sighed after seeing the bright orange signs strewn across the road outside her salon and said: “There they go again. They (the council) gave us a letter about it so it wasn’t totally unexpected. But it has not exactly helped with business.
“We didn’t know the whole road was going to be closed, but we have been told it will reopen again this Wednesday.
“We are not getting anything like compensation and just going with the flow.”
Dumfries and Galloway Council issued notices on social media and delivered leaflets saying repair and demolition work was to be carried out at English Street which is the responsibility of the owner of the premises and insisted the safety of residents is of “paramount concern” to the authority and “minimising disruption to the local businesses comes next”.
