Dumfries Saints urging fans to boost funds by raising a glass during the Six Nations

Dumfries Saints are urging fans to raise a glass throughout the Six Nations.

The Donate a Pint campaign encourages people to donate the cost of their favourite tipple to help the club during the tournament.

Normally over the Six Nations the bar at the clubhouse would be filled with rugby fanatics but that’s not possible this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Alcohol sales and functions make up a large percentage of the club’s income.

Saints have been overwhelmed with kind-hearted punters donating more than £1,500 in one weekend.

Club president Andy Graham said: “We had a meeting between clubs recently and a club in Glasgow had mentioned they were doing this and we thought it was so simple.

“We had a committee meeting a few weeks ago and this idea was brought up and we decided to do it.

“We’re aiming for £2,021 and so far we’ve got £1,800 in total so far which is just fantastic.

“People can donate what they want and we’ve had people donating £10 and £20 here and there. For something so simple it has been a godsend to the club.

“I’d still rather see some rugby at Park Farm and it’s been a year. But hopefully we can have some soon.”
