Dumfries Rugby Club is pleading with dog walkers to pick up after their pets.
Dog fouling on the Park Farm pitch has been a problem for the Saints for a number of years but the situation has worsened in recent weeks.
The club made an appeal on social media this week and it has been backed up by committee members who say it is a health hazard for players.
Past president Andy Graham said: “This has been a problem for the club for a number of years.
“We put signs up and it did fall away for a wee bit but recently it’s gotten worse and worse and the issue has reared its ugly head again.
“It’s absolutely disgusting.
“The people that do this don’t give two hoots though, they don’t care. Nobody does anything about it.
“We have to think about the welfare of people at the club, in particular younger players, and we’re worried that this is a health hazard.
“We want people to pick up their dog mess and put it in a bin. Don’t leave it on the pitches or bag it up and leave it around the place. Take it with you and put it in a bin.
“People want to come and play rugby – they don’t want to spend time cleaning the pitches.”
Hundreds of players use the multiple pitches every week across a variety of teams and age groups.
On Facebook Dumfries Saints said: “Unfortunately we have found a lot of dog faeces on our pitches at Park Farm over the last few weeks.
“Please pick up after your dog.”
