Superfit Dumfries athlete David Parrish won his first ultramarathon – a gruelling 248-mile race.
Previously the furthest he had run in a competitive event was a 13 mile half marathon.
The 32-year-old lined up at Fort William for the 2023 Cape Wrath Ultra and stormed to victory with the second fastest time ever for the event.
The former Marine set off with 184 other athletes and completed the distance in 45 hours 28 minutes and 48 seconds.
David, who now works for Barclays, said: “I felt pride and relief. I was kind of sad when it was all over.
“All of a sudden all the pain went away, and I thought, I could get used to the positivity of the whole experience.

“Despite everyone being knackered and broken, everyone was always so positive and uplifting.
“I’ll have to do it again. I think I’d like to come back as one of the volunteer team.”
The annual Cape Wrath Ultra is organised by expedition race specialist Ourea Events and attracts some of the world’s best ultra runners.
This year the race took competitors through some of Scotland’s most spectacular landscapes, including Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt and Sutherland.
Only 88 runners completed the full race to the most westerly point of mainland Britain at Cape Wrath Lighthouse.
