Dumfries River of Life Church serving up a Christmas Day feast

Dumfries pastor Mark Smith has issued an open invitation to join him for a free Christmas lunch.

The River of Life Church is hosting the event at 1pm following its festive service.

Anyone who is alone on the day or finds this time of year difficult, is invited to visit the church near Dumfries train station.

Mr Smith said: “Anyone and everyone is welcome on Christmas Day. It’s the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ - God’s son; our saviour.

“We want to share the joy and reach out to those who don’t find Christmas nice, by inviting them to enjoy the day free from worry, in the warmth of others and with a lovely meal.

“We’re incredibly grateful to all those who give their time freely to serve others on this special day, not just at River of Life, but in other similar initiatives around our town.

“We’re also very thankful to the Lions Club and others who generously give to enable us to provide this day free of charge.”

He added: “Also, on Christmas Eve, our regular surplus food project, The Pantry, which provides free food daily to anyone who needs it, will be open for a bumper Christmas food give-away on the 24th from 7pm at the Church.

“Aldi, M&S, Tesco and Lidl will all be giving us stock they didn’t manage to sell before the holidays, so we can give it to anyone who needs it!

“We don’t want any of this great food to go to waste, so please come and make use of it.”
