You’d batter believe it’s Pancake Day today – and Dumfries residents have revealed stacks of favourite toppings.
Anne Croucher, community champion at Tesco Extra, Cuckoo Bridge, tossed out a challenge in an online competition for Shrove Tuesday, inviting people to reveal their pancake passions.
On the flip side, entries went into a draw for a bumper prize which included a pan, handmixer, pancake ingredients and toppings.
And Anne was thrilled when the entries crêped up to more than 330.
She said: “I think the competition really struck a chord and it was fantastic to get so many entries and to see the huge variety in toppings which local people have on their pancakes.”
As well as classic lemon and sugar, there were plenty of variants of fruits and ice cream, to cooked apples and toffee sauce. And plenty offered favourites ingredients including maple syrup, Greek yoghurt, chocolate, golden syrup and jam, to the more unusual – gravy.
But everyone really knows that the best pancake topping is ... more pancakes.
