Dumfries pals set to take on mountainous charity challenge

Four gym pals are hoping to scale new heights when they climb Britain’s three highest mountains in the space of just 24 hours.

Ian Corsan, Allan Jamieson, Mark Gallagher and Matthew Roach will attempt the National 3 Peaks Challenge on July 20 in aid of two charities close to their hearts.

By the time they’ve conquered Mount Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Ben Nevis, they’ll have climbed a total of 3,064m, walked 23 miles and driven 462 miles.

And if they start to struggle, remembering the reason behind it all is sure to give the big-hearted boys a boost.

They are aiming to raise £3,000 to split between the Alexandra Unit at Dumfries Infirmary in memory of Amisfield man George Ireland, and the Anthony Nolan charity.

Ian said: “George was a family friend who sadly passed away after battling cancer so he’ll be in my thoughts as we attempt this challenge. I’m doing it in his memory.”

Mark added: “ The Anthony Nolan charity , which helps people with blood cancer who need stem cell or bone marrow transplants, is a cause very close to our hearts.

“The three peaks will pose a difficult challenge for us but as a five-man team - four of us climbing and Robert Chalmers driving - we hope to succeed within the 24-hour period.”
