Dumfries Market Festival set to return to town centre on September 12

Dumfries Market Festival is set to make a comeback next month.

Organisers The Guild Dumfries called for makers, artists, food producers, street food vendors and businesses who want to feature in it to get in touch by midnight.

The market festival was launched in the town centre in March with more than 20 stalls at Queensberry Square and Fountain Square and entertainment by local talent.

It was to be held every month but the pandemic means it has been on hold.

Leah Halliday from The Guild Dumfries promised: “Visitors will be able to enjoy a whole host of marvellous makers and so much more.”

The festival will relaunch on Saturday, September 12 and run from 10am until 3pm.

Leah said: “This will be a super addition to the town centre and we hope will show that Dumfries is open for business while promoting the shop local message.”

Fellow director Kirsten Scott said: “We would like to be able to add to the festival atmosphere by encouraging musicians and local bands to perform at the Plainstanes while keeping audiences safely distanced.

“The performance element of our launch in March was so well received and we feel live music is something that many of us are missing at this time”.
