Dumfries Lions Club's Christmas tree sale proves to be a roaring success

A festive Dumfries tradition was a roaring success – with Covid measures in place – over the weekend.

Generations of Doonhamers enjoy choosing and buying their Christmas trees from Dumfries Lions Club each year and members go on to use the cash raised to help others in the community, organisations and individuals where a need is identified.

And the Lions were busier than usual on Saturday and Sunday when residents turned out to buy their netted trees at a cost of £20 for up to 5ft and £25 for those larger.

Organiser John MacColl predicted an increase in the volume of customers this year realising they might prefer selecting and purchasing their tree in an outdoor environment during the pandemic rather than having to visit a busy store.

And the club took specialist advice on the restrictions required to keep customers and club members safe.

The Lions will again be selling their Christmas trees this weekend from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

They will be at the usual venue – just off the Collin bypass on the right at the low Annan Road junction.
