Dumfries hospital receives merry Christmas thanks to charity tractor run

A festive truck and tractor run gave the DGRI’s neo natal unit a very merry Christmas.

Parents Becky and Ryan Muir organised the colourful fundraiser after their daughter Miley Rose spent six weeks in hospital when she was born in 2015.

With almost 100 vehicles driving the route through Lockerbie and Dumfries the event was a resounding success with £5,000 being raised.

Tractorman Ryan, 27, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and it went better than I could’ve imagined.

“They really go above and beyond to help not just the babies but the families too. Parents can be stressed and they comfort us and I wanted to say a massive thank you to them and raise a bit more money for some equipment.”

The family, including Miley Rose who is now six-years-old, presented the money along with gifts for families who were in the unit over the festive period.

Mo Smith, senior charge nurse, said: “This is an outstanding sum of money and we are delighted to receive this generous gift from such a wonderful fundraising event.”
