Dumfries golfers to play 72 holes in one day to raise money for lifesaving devibrillator

Four Dumfries fundraisers will be hoping to make a hole lot of money to buy a defibrillator.

Solway Fitness members Blair McCubbin, Steven Kirkpatrick and Emma Clark and owner Ross Turley will attempt to play 72 holes of golf in one day on Monday, August 30 to buy a piece of life-saving kit for the gym.

At the moment the nearest defib to Solway Fitness is approximately one mile away.

The use of an automatic external defibrillator within the first three to five minutes of a person collapsing due to a cardiac arrest has shown to dramatically increase their survival rate.

Ross said: “This defibrillator will not only be accessible for users of Solway Fitness but clearly positioned on the building outside in a heated cabinet to be used in an emergency on anyone in the area who requires it.

“We of course hope that this piece of equipment is never needed. However, the reality is anyone could need it at any time.

“When Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed during this Summer’s Euro 2020 tournament, the world looked on in horror as someone who is young and very fit collapsed on live TV with a cardiac arrest, only to be saved by CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

“A great number of cyclists pass our premises every day and we want to be able to offer a lifeline to those people too should the worst happen.”

The team will start playing at Lochmaben at 6am, before going to the Crichton at 10am, the Galloway at 2pm and finishing off at the County at 6pm. Anyone who wants to join them and walk a few holes is most welcome.
