Dumfries Crichton parkrun set to return after near 18-month coronavirus hiatus

Local fitness fans will have their running shoes on this weekend as they prepare for the return of Crichton parkrun.

The weekly free 5km hasn’t taken place since March 14, 2020 due to coronavirus restrictions but this Saturday at 9.30am the community event will make a comeback.

And there will be a new route, with the event beginning at Kindar House and finishing in the car park outside new parkrun cafe Crichton Central.

Parkrun is a timed circuit of the Crichton which takes place every week and is open to all abilities and participants, who can walk or run the distance.

The event looks to promote the mental and physical benefits of exercising as well as building community spirit among runners, walkers and volunteers.

Emma Eden, the event director, said: “We are really, really looking forward to welcoming people back to parkrun and seeing everyone again after so long.

“We’ve got such a nice community and we’re really lucky we have lots of volunteers that come just to be a part of the community.

“It will be great to have people back at it. There are so many benefits to taking part and getting involved.

“I’m so excited for Saturday.”

Those wishing to take part should visit www.parkrun.org.uk/crichton/ for more details and how to register.
