Dumfries carpet fitter Robert is the fastest in the world

When it comes to breaking records, Robert Chambers has it covered.

The Dumfries man has just laid claim to the title of fastest carpet fitter in the world.

Thirty-three year-old Robert managed to fit a 12 metre squared carpet in just four minutes and 33 seconds.

And officials at the Guinness World Records have verified that he nailed it when he attempted to beat the previous record of six minutes and 20 seconds.

Proud Robert, who started his carpet fitting apprenticeship as a 16-year-old, said: “I didn’t think I’d manage it, but I’m chuffed that I did.”

Dad Robert, who now works for the Home and Floor Store run by his wife Paula and sister Louise Jamieson, said family and friends thought he was “off my head” for trying to become the  fastest carpet fitter in the world.

He added: “I love my job, and the best bit about it is meeting different people every day and having a wee bit of banter with the customers.

“I’ve been doing it since I was a teenager and although I’ve always thought I was quick at laying carpets, I didn’t realise I was that quick.

“My attempt had to be witnessed and recorded so it’s taken a bit of time to have it verified.

“Now that it has been, it feels great and I’m looking forward to receiving my certificate from the Guinness World Records to prove I really am the fastest carpet fitter in the world.”
