Dumfries boy raises £2,500 for charity after shaving head to support grandmother

A devoted grandson who had his hair shaved off for charity, has handed over a cheque for more than £2,500.

Nine-year-old Sonny Caven from Dumfries decided he wanted to show solidarity with his nana Joan Proudfoot as she began treatment for cancer.

After being told Joan, 62, might lose her hair during the treatment, Heathhall P6 pupil Sonny decided to shave his off so he could be the same as his nana.

Joan also went for the chop on the same day.

Ali Donowho, a local representative of Cancer Research UK, accepted the cheque from Sonny recently.

The youngster’s mum Laura said: “We are all so proud of Sonny and so grateful to everyone as the kindness people have shown has been overwhelming and has given us something really positive to focus on during a difficult time.”
