Dumfries-based family welcome the arrival of its fifth generation

It’s a family affair for a Dumfries-based clan which has welcomed the arrival of its fifth generation.

Little Paisley James Seymour was born in September, marking the five generation dynasty of matriarchs of the Keeble family.

Mum Elaina Bray and dad Arran Seymour welcomed the 8lb 30z tot, who was born at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary – bringing some much needed joy for the family.

She joins a clan which includes gran Angela Bray and great gran Carol Keeble, 76.

Heading up the family is great great gran, 99-year-old Ellen Keeble, who moved to the area last year from her home in Hampshire to be closer to the rest of the family.

Angela, 44, told the Standard: “Elaina didn’t know whether she was having a boy or a girl, so I initially started thinking it would make a lovely photo if it was a girl and we had five generations of the family.

“My gran wasn’t well for a bit but then Paisley arrived and I just thought it was really special to have five generations together. We are all delighted. Paisley is lovely.

“She is a really good baby, which is surprising because her mum wasn’t. She used to cry a lot at night.”

The arrival provided some welcome good news for the family, who suffered the loss of Angela’s father, Peter Keeble, last year.

Baby Paisley’s great great gran Ellen, hails originally from Brixton, London.

The determined pensioner, who experienced the Blitz, gave up smoking at the tender age of 89.

Angela said: “My gran is as tough as old boots. When she gave up smoking, she said ‘I’ve got plenty of years left in me, I want to be as healthy as I can’.”

Childminder Angela, of Edinburgh Road, told how the new arrival has given the family a welcome boost.

She said: “My mum and gran moved here from Farnborough to be closer to us after my dad died, so they are here for the baby as well. It’s really helped give us some good news.

"My partner has been recovering from an accident as well, so it’s been quite tough.”
