Dumfries barber holding sponsored silence to raise money for Cancer Research UK

Everyone enjoys a good blether when getting their hair cut.

Customers of Kirsty Smith, who works at Tracy’s Barbers Shop in Friars Vennel, Dumfries, are no exception.

But it will be all change on Friday.

From 9am Kirsty’s lips will sealed and they will remain that way until 5pm.

The sound of silence is all in a good cause though. It’s part of the shop’s 30th anniversary fundraising efforts to help Cancer Research UK.

And customers in the know are already backing Kirsty’s hush hush efforts to the tune of £1,000 in pledges.

Shop owner Tracy Hastings said: “We’ve so far managed to raise a great amount of money and regular customers will know how difficult a challenge it will be for her to keep quiet during the day!”

The shop is also hosting a party on Saturday to mark the anniversary of its opening on November 30, 1989, with all welcome to head along for drinks, canapes, games and prizes.
