Dumfries bar bosses left counting the cost of vandalism attack by mindless kids

Bar bosses are counting the cost of a vandalism attack by a group of mindless kids.

The Bank Bar and Tapas restaurant owners Laura and Adam Scott had set up a marquee at the back of their premises to meet previous Scottish Government guidelines about eating and drinking outdoors.

However, four young boys, said to be under the age of 13, broke in and punctured sofas with screwdrivers and gouged holes in the wooden tables during an orgy of destruction which included smashing mirrors, pictures and furniture.

The Whitesands owners put a statement on their Facebook page which said: “Disgusted beyond words. During the most testing time we could ever imagine as a business, we are alerted by the police that this (vandalism) has happened in the marquee.

“We have been met with cigarette burns and screwdriver holes in our sofas and a broken lager machine where youths have tried to attach the wrong keg to it, along with trashing the whole place with mirrors, pictures and furniture all smashed everywhere.

“We hope you are proud of yourselves. When the four pre-teen boys’ parents get a phone call to say they have been involved in this maybe they can look at these pictures and see the level of mindless vandalism their child has been involved in.

“We would be more than happy to have them come and tidy up their mess or perhaps we could invite them in to do a few shifts when we reopen as repayment and we can teach them a little about hard work and respect.”

The owners hit the headlines earlier in the pandemic when they opened for carry out poured pints to avoid the lager being poured away after its sell by date.

All pints were reduced to just £1.50 and the proceeds were donated to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The couple also launched a cafe culture bid by setting up tables and chairs at the front of the building with parasols.
