The Dumfries and Galloway Youth Orchestra will host one of their popular come and play days this week.
The free event will take place on Saturday, October 1 at St Joseph’s College from 10am until 1pm with a short concert afterwards.
The Saturday morning event is for anyone between the ages of 10 and 18 who plays an orchestral musical instrument.
It will be led by the orchestra’s conductor; BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra violinist Jane Hainey who will be supported by knowledgeable and professional tutors.
Orchestra chairman and ex-head of music at Wallace Hall Academy, Nick Riley, said: “We really want to give an opportunity for any young people who have started to play an instrument but have never had the chance to experience the fun of playing together with others to come along and have a go.
“We have a great bunch of kids already who are ready to welcome in anyone who already plays and who fancies a go!
“We are a classical orchestra, so any instrument that you could find playing in the BBC Proms, we’d be happy to have! Go on, surprise us!”
Help with travel expenses is also available for any child attending. This may be of particular interest to those coming from distant parts of the region. For more information about any aspect of the day, please get in touch with the orchestra at: contact@dgyouthorchestra.org.
