Dumfries and Galloway to remain at level two in Scottish Government's coronavirus restriction system

Dumfries and Galloway will remain at level two of the Scottish Government’s coronavirus restriction system for at least another week.

It means no change to the regulations that have been in force in the region since November 2.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the news this afternoon and also revealed that large swathes of the Central Belt have been moved up to level four – the highest tier.

As a result, in 11 areas including Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire, all pubs and restaurants are shut while non-essential shops must close.

In Dumfries and Galloway, it remains the case that pubs and restaurants can serve alcohol indoors provided it is accompanied by a main meal. Shops also remain open.

There were a further six cases in the region today, taking the tally to 1,074. 202 of them have been in November with 71 in the past week. There are currently 10 people being treated in the region’s hospitals, down one from yesterday

There were 1,248 new cases in Scotland today, taking the total to 83,259. There are 1,249 people in hospital with 95 in intensive care.

A further 37 deaths were revealed, taking the total to 3,323.
